Teaching People to Follow Jesus
Here Comes the Bride
Let the Wedding Bells Chime
October 6, 2019
Like an old house ready to be renovated, the modern church in many ways has become dilapidated – we’re missing God’s intention. The church was meant to be a powerful force that would impact the world for Christ, a pure bride revealing how to have a right relationship with God. On October 6, 2019 we reviewed what we have learned throughout this series of sermons and were challenged to follow the biblical example of the New Testament church. Please read Matthew 16, in preparation for this message: Let the Wedding Bells Chime. Click on the image to listen.
Spirit and Truth
September 29, 2019
We tend to use the word “worship” lightly. We talk about worship songs, worship styles, worship teams, worship albums, worship leaders, and worship centers. We all have our preferences – our likes and dislikes. Yet, is that what worship is about? On September 29, 2019 we saw two things – beyond our salvation – that are necessary for true worship and we were challenged to worship in spirit and in truth according to the biblical pattern for worship. Please join us in reading John 4 and Genesis 4, in preparation for this message: Spirit and Truth. Click on the image to listen.
Spiritual GPS
September 22, 2019
Have you noticed how some who claim to follow Jesus seem more like born-again unbelievers. When we claim to be “believers”, aren’t we saying that we believe what God says in his word? If we call ourselves believers, doesn’t it make sense that we strive to live the way God says to live? OnSeptember 22, 2019 we learned to live according to God’s plan for our lives, recognizing that we are his chosen voice to share the good news of Jesus to the world. Please join us in reading Acts 13, in preparation for this message: Spiritual GPS. Click on the image to listen.
One in Christ
September 8, 2019
Without a compass it is easy to lose track of where we’re headed. In the church, the Bible is our compass that points us to the will of God. When we don’t consult our compass, we may not realize how far off the mark we may be. On September 8th, 2019 we examined the early church’s example of singularity to bring an end to segregation. Please join us in reading Galatians chapter 2, in preparation for this message: One in Christ. Click on the image to listen.
As Iron Sharpens Iron
September 1, 2019
Our world has become tolerant of sin and, in many respects, the church has followed suit. Many churches are even proud of how tolerant they are of what the Bible says is sin. Yet, God calls for his people to live according to his word and when they don’t, he calls for discipline. On September 1, 2019 we recognized the need for discipline within the church – going below the surface in one another’s lives and helping one another align our lives with Jesus. Please join us in reading Acts chapter 5, in preparation for this message: As Iron Sharpens Iron. Click on the image to listen.
Not Bogged Down
August 25, 2019
As we study the book of Acts, it doesn’t take long to recognize that Satan has two types of assault against us as the church – external and internal. When the external attack of persecution doesn’t stop us, Satan often turns to the internal attack of descension and murmuring. On August 25, 2019 we learned to defend ourselves against Satan’s attacks by maintaining God’s eternal perspective – by going to our knees in prayer and faithfully teaching the word of God. Please join us in reading Acts chapter 6 in preparation for this message: Not Bogged Down. Click on the image to listen.
Not Afraid of Persecution
August 11, 2019
We often shy away from persecution in our lives. Yet, it was the pressure of persecution that spurred the expansion of the early church. The truth is that God often allows trials and persecution to help us grow and mature in Jesus. On August 11, 2019 we learned how to respond to the pressure of persecution in our lives in a way that furthers the kingdom of God. Please join us in reading Acts chapter 8, in preparation for this message: Not Afraid of Persecution. Click on the image to listen.
Our Gifts, Reflecting Jesus
July 28, 2019
What is Jesus like? We often have a hard time remembering. We read about him in God’s word, then forget what he is like shortly after closing our Bibles. How can we introduce those in our lives to him when we barely remember him ourselves? On July 28, 2019 we saw how using our spiritual gifts in combination with the gifts of our brothers and sisters in Christ reveals the full character of Jesus to the world. Please join us in reading James chapter 1 and 1 Corinthians chapter 12, in preparation for this message: Our Gifts, Reflecting Jesus. Click on the image to listen.
Bold Witness
July 21, 2019
More and more people are speaking up about god; the problem is their god often isn’t the God. Satan isn’t concerned with people talking about their god, but he flies off the handle when Christians talk about Jesus. On July 21, 2019 we were filled with the boldness of the early church as we bear witness to what Jesus has done – first by the way we live, then by our testimony. Please join us in reading Acts chapters 3 and 4, in preparation for this message: Bold Witness. Click on the image to listen.
Uncomfortable
July 14, 2019
Sunday morning worship is one of the most segregated hours in North America and many are comfortable with it being that way. But is it possible that God never intended church to be so comfortable? On July 14, 2019 we came to realize the church is to be a blend of different ethnic, economic, and social backgrounds melded together into a giving, ministering, caring, accepting, sending body of believers. Please join us in reading Acts chapters 8-13, in preparation for this message: Uncomfortable. Click on the image to listen.
In the Word
July 7, 2019
Whether it’s the doctor at the clinic, the mechanic at the dealer, or the farmer in the field, they all have their own vocabulary that can be confusing if we’re not familiar with it. Often, as Christians, we confuse those we’re trying to reach with our “churchy” vocabulary. On July 7, 2019 we will saw the significance of living according to God’s word, the Bible and how our lives communicate it clearly. Please join us in reading Acts chapter 2 and 2 Timothy chapter 3, in preparation for this message: In the Word. Click on the image to listen.
Filled with the Spirit
June 30, 2019
Have you noticed that people in the world often appear happier than people within the church? Many Christians are living defeated lives because they are not experiencing the filling of the Holy Spirit. On June 30, 2019 we were empowered to utilize the joy and boldness that comes from being filled with the Spirit of God as a witness for Christ. Please join us in reading Acts chapter 4, in preparation for this message: Filled with the Spirit. Click on the image to listen.
Here Comes the Bride
June 23, 2019
In our modern times, we have grown comfortable with all our conveniences. In fact, our lives have become so comfortable that when our toes get stepped on in our church by the truth of God’s word, we start looking for another church that better fits our comfort level. On June 23, 2019 we will introduce the idea that God’s intention for the church may be different than we have made it and we’ll make sure we’re aligning ourselves with his plan. Please join us in reading 2 Corinthians chapter 10, in preparation for this message: Here Comes the Bride. Click on the image to listen.
